Producing
Nutrient Dense Foods

Improving the soil resource is key to healthy production.  We believe that we should have high quality products.  This is accomplished by focusing on the soil with and ecosystems approach.  The soil is alive and can be vibrant and dynamic if it is managed well.  We use compost and compost extracts to add diverse microbiology to the soil.  We provide a safe environment for the microbes to thrive and interact with plants by not disturbing them (we don't till), growing a diversity of plants as many days a year as possible, and including livestock grazing.  In turn the microbes and plants cycle nutrients, aerate the soil, cycle carbon, create soil structure (stabilize the soil) and increase water infiltration.

For example, our popcorn is grown following a diverse cover crop that is grazed in the fall and winter months and overwintering legumes regrow in the spring to provide Nitrogen and biomass as the Popcorn begins to grow
