The Family

Keith & Jodi Carlson - Jordan, Liz, Lainy, Gideon, Claire, and Jude live and farm in Western Custer County Nebraska (which is right in the middle).  Both Keith and Jordan's focus on the farm for years has been on improving soils.  What was once a simple corn and soybean farm that Keith started in the late 1970's has now become a more complex and diverse system that includes corn, popcorn, soybeans, rye, oats, hairy vetch, peas, barely and buckwheat as cash crops.  Multispecies cover crops growing at all times of the year also add diversity, increase water infiltration, reduce erosion, and reduce other purchased inputs.  Cows have also in recent years became part of the operational rotation to further regenerate the soil.
